From Bare Fiber to Opening Day in a Week: A Bozeman Pediatric Clinic

At a glance

Client: A Bozeman pediatric clinic

Type: Children's healthcare practice in a newly built office

Services: network design, firewall and switch installation, WiFi 6 access points, segmented networks, media rack and cable management, ongoing IT support

Scale: About one week from first call to opening day, full install in a single day, separate networks for practice devices, staff, guests, and connected devices

Platforms: Fortinet, Alta Labs, Yellowstone Fiber, Global Net

The constraint

The clinic was moving into a brand-new building. The walls were already wired and fiber had just reached the door, but nothing was set up inside, and the owners weren't sure how the pieces fit together. Their old office had run on a basic cable internet setup, and this one needed to do a lot more. Therapists were starting sessions the following Monday, and the whole office runs on WiFi, so without a working network there was no opening day.

Walking them through it

We sat down with the owners, explained what a professional office network actually needs and why, and had a scope and hardware plan to them the next day: a business-grade firewall at the edge, a managed switch to power and connect everything, and enough access points to cover every room.

Install in a single visit

Two technicians handled the full install in one day. We mounted a compact media rack, installed and configured a Fortinet firewall and an Alta Labs PoE switch, and hung three Alta Labs WiFi 6 access points. The new building's existing cabling was brought back to the rack, dressed, and organized, and every terminated run was tested before we left.

Designed with patient privacy in mind

Not every device belongs on the same network. We set up separate networks by purpose: one for the practice's own computers and devices that handle patient information, staff WiFi for personal phones, guest WiFi for families in the waiting room, and a separate network for cameras, Sonos speakers, TVs, and other connected devices around the office. Each one stays in its own lane, so a guest's phone or a smart speaker never shares a network with patient information.

What's in place now

  • Fortinet firewall protecting the clinic's fiber connection

  • Alta Labs PoE switch and three WiFi 6 access points covering every room

  • Separate networks for practice devices, staff phones, guests, and connected devices

  • A compact, organized media rack with every run tested

  • A local team supporting the office month to month

The result

The clinic opened on schedule with a secure, segmented network built for how a pediatric practice actually works, and a local team the owners can call whenever something new comes up.

Opening or moving a medical practice?

Pediatric, therapy, dental, or any office where patient information and guest WiFi share a building: let's design a network that keeps them apart from day one.
