Built From the Studs Up: Networking a New Indoor Golf Facility

At a glance

Client: An indoor golf facility in Bozeman, opened in 2025

Type: New business, built out during construction

Services: structured cabling, network and WiFi, firewall, camera setup, keycard access control, managed support

Scale: Cat6 to 18 planned locations plus access control, cameras, and the internet feed, built during construction

Platforms: Alta Labs, Kisi, Global Net, Yellowstone Fiber

The constraint

Starting a new business means a lot of systems have to work on day one. This facility needed data drops, WiFi, cameras, and door access, and the space was still an active construction site, without even a front door at one point. The work had to fit around framing, drywall, other trades, and the building's schedule.

Rough-in before the drywall

We walked the site with the owners, finalized every cable path, and pulled Cat6 to 18 planned locations while the walls were still open. Every run was labeled at both ends and supported to structured cabling standards, with extra slack left in place for future changes. We coordinated building access directly with the architect so our crew stayed on pace with construction.

Trim-out and go-live

After drywall and paint, we came back to cut in wall plates, terminate every drop, and land it all on a labeled 24-port patch panel in a new equipment rack. Every cable was tested for continuity and performance. We met Global Net on site for the internet handoff, brought the connection up through a business firewall, and installed Alta Labs managed switching and WiFi for staff and guests on a cloud-managed platform.

Adding to the plan as the building took shape

Construction always changes the plan. When the IT closet needed a new line to bring internet service in, we pulled it. We added cabling and low voltage wiring for keycard readers, door strikes, and a door actuator, then installed and connected the Kisi cloud-based access control system. We ran cabling for the cameras, including one added mid-build, connected them, and set the whole system up, plus a network drop at an exterior door.

What's in place now

  • Cat6 structured cabling, labeled and tested, landed on a 24-port patch panel

  • Business firewall with an active security subscription

  • Alta Labs managed switching and staff and guest WiFi, cloud-managed

  • Cameras cabled, connected, and set up on the network

  • Kisi keycard access control with wired door hardware

  • Monitoring with alerts routed to Big Sky Wired

  • Ongoing managed support with regular updates and security patches

The result

The facility opened with its network, cameras, and door access built in from the start, and a local team keeps it patched, monitored, and supported.

"Starting a business is not easy. Starting a business that has a lot of system requiring IT support when you are not a computer wiz is even harder. Getting connected with Big Sky Wired and using them to assist in not only the low voltage wiring of many items but also navigating the most efficient equipment sets up was one of the best business decisions we made. Angas and his team are always available to ask questions, solve problems, and just make things far outside our expertise, dare I say, easy... Moving forward now that our business is about to open its doors to the public, retaining Big Sky Wired for managed IT services is a no brainer. I would recommend Big Sky Wired to any small business in Bozeman looking for managed IT or needs help upgrading their tech. Incredible team, and incredible service."
