Structured Cabling & Low Voltage Wiring in Bozeman, Big Sky & Beyond
Big Sky Wired installs and tests structured cabling for new construction, commercial renovations, and building upgrades across Montana. We pull, terminate, label, test, and document Cat6 and Cat6A to a standard that holds up, whether it is a restaurant, an office buildout, or a multi-building property. Clean trays, dressed racks, tested runs, and a labeling scheme your IT team or next contractor can actually follow.
We coordinate with general contractors and electrical teams on new construction and tenant improvements, pulling in-wall before drywall, sleeving slab penetrations before the pour, and sequencing our work around the other trades. We show up to your schedule, document for your project file, and stay in our lane on the work that is ours. Div 27 and Div 28 scope, handled like it is our name on the closeout.

Tested and Documented
On a commercial job, the cabling is only as good as the proof that it works. Every run we install is tested on install day, and where your spec calls for it, certified with a saved test report per drop. You also get a labeled patch panel and an as-built drop schedule at closeout. That means the next person who touches the system, your IT team, an integrator, or the next contractor, knows exactly what is where. It is the difference between cabling that passes inspection and cabling that just looks finished.
Why It Matters: A clean low voltage backbone is critical for consistent Wi-Fi, smooth point-of-sale systems, video conferencing, camera systems, and access control. We make sure every connection is solid, tested, and ready for your IT infrastructure.
Proven Work: We recabled a live grocery store’s checkout lanes overnight: 20 Cat6 runs over four overnight shifts, with zero registers down during business hours. Read the case study. On a biomedical campus, we added 14 Cat6 drops across three buildings and about 500 feet of new fiber backbone in about a week. Read the fiber case study.
What the Job Looks Like
Scope from your plans or a walk. Send drawings or a drop count, or we walk the space. If the count isn't locked yet, you get a budgetary range first and a firm number once it is.
Timing with the other trades. On new construction we flag the deadlines that can't be undone: sleeves and conduit before a slab pour, in-wall cable before insulation and drywall. We sequence around the electrician and the GC's schedule.
Pull, terminate, and dress. Cable is supported on J-hooks or in tray, terminated to patch panels and keystones, and dressed in the rack so it can be traced and added to later.
Test every run. Every drop is tested for continuity and link before we leave. Where the spec calls for it, we certify each run and save the report per drop.
Hand off the paperwork. You get a labeled patch panel, an as-built drop schedule, and photos for your project file.
Structured Cabling FAQ
Do you certify every cable?
Every run we install is tested for continuity and link, and powered devices are checked for PoE. Full certification, with a saved test report for every drop, is available and quoted as its own deliverable, because it takes a certification-grade tester and more time per run. If your spec or your IT team requires it, tell us up front and it goes in the scope.
Cat6 or Cat6A?
Cat6 covers most offices, restaurants, and retail spaces. Cat6A makes sense for longer runs to high-power WiFi access points, high-bandwidth equipment, or a building you expect to outlast the next round of hardware. We'll recommend one based on what the space needs, not the more expensive option by default.
When should we bring you in on new construction?
Before the slab pour if anything has to run under it, and no later than framing. Once insulation and drywall go up, every in-wall run gets slower and more expensive. Device locations can be marked later; the pathways are what can't wait.
Do you work under a general contractor or electrician?
Yes. We regularly work as the low voltage sub on commercial and residential builds. We follow the GC's schedule, coordinate with the electrician on conduit and power, and document for the project file. Electrical scope itself is handled by licensed electricians.
Can you run fiber between buildings?
Yes. We install fiber backbones between buildings and floors, including underground runs coordinated with a telecom construction partner, then terminate and test both ends. See the biomedical campus case study for an example.
Can you work in a building that's open for business?
Yes. We plan the work around your hours, including overnight shifts when the space can't go down during the day. The grocery checkout case study is one example.

For new builds, remodels, and tenant improvements
Cable It Once. Cable It Right.
The cheapest cable run is the one placed before the drywall goes up. We sequence our work around your other trades, pull clean, and hand back a building that is tested, labeled, and documented.
In Before the Walls Close
We flag the deadlines that can't be undone and get pathways and pulls done while the framing is open.
